"When is the last time you've been in the forest?" She asked me. It was a bizarre question but when I thought about it I realized that I had never really ventured out into the woods before. Obviously no part of the island was exactly off limits, and there were very few rules on the island. But for some reason, a reason I can't name to this day, I had barely thought about it at all. Forests are private, lonely places and on the island we have no use for privacy, or the kind of self reflection required by the life of an individual. Victoria smiled and turned to walk away, but then looked back over her shoulder and reached out her hand.
"Follow me" she whispered.
Her hand was smooth and warm. My fingers tingled, intertwined with hers. She lead me for what seemed like hours down a very faint path, but I didn't mind. I could have followed her into the woods for the rest of my life and I would have savored every second until my dying breath.
